Pokerstars to get EPT back to a more poker-friendly environment

Good news for poker tournament fans is that Poker Stars.com will be putting France back on to its European Poker Tour programme after an hiatus of two years due to a now changing but originally unfriendly French legislative environment.

The company has confirmed that the Casino Barriere Deauville will be part of the EPT’s fifth season, which will run from January 20-24, 2009.

According to an statement issued by the EPT’s chief executive, John Duthie, an extensive lineup of Team PokerStars pros is in prospect and includes Vanessa Rousso, Vicky Coren, Isabelle Mercier and Katja Thater, along with Bertrand “ElkY’ Grospellier, Noah Boeken, Alex Kravchenko, Luca Pagano, Dario Minieri and Chad Brown. Duthie advises that a big entry field is expected, and registrations will therefore be capped at 700 players, which will generate a prize pool of some Euro 3 360 000.

The online poker company will be running a series of Internet qualifiers which will enable players short of the EPT buy-in of Euro 5 300 to win packages that include buy-in, travel and accommodation allowances.

The North AOC Poker Championship offers bonus money and tuition

It’s often said that the pace and complexity of online poker and its multi-tabling opportunities make it a young man’s game, and the young guns have certainly been winning an impressive number of big-money tournaments recently. Targeting this demographic, LifeofSports this week launched its North America Online College Poker Championship in partnership with the growing Cake Poker Network.

College players in North America are being offered a weekly free roll College Championship by the partners, with the North America Online College Poker Championship open to any college or university student within North America. Participants will be competing for a grand prize that includes free college tuition for a year and a trip for two to Cancun, Mexico, worth around $20 000.

“This is the only tournament of its kind in the country,” claims LifeofSports Marketing Director Chris Neville. “This is the only free play contest solely for university students and is for North American students only.”

Participants will compete in weekly free roll online tournaments with the top three finishers each week moving on to the finals in May 2009. Readers can find the full detail at Life of Sports.
